The Council of Evangelical Protestant Churches of Ukraine is making efforts to protect Ukraine by appealing to U.S. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson and members of the House of Representatives
Following the decision taken at the meeting on March 26, the relevant letters were sent to members of Congress and the Speaker.
“On behalf of the Council of Evangelical Protestant Churches, representing more than 8,000 churches and reaching nearly 2 million believers, we ask for your action and prayer,” the letter to Speaker Johnson reads.
“For 30 years after the declaration of Ukraine’s independence, we had the opportunity to evangelize, help people spiritually, open thousands of churches, but then Russia started a war to destroy us as a people.”
The letter was signed by the leaders of 15 Protestant denominations in Ukraine.
“As you know, on the night of April 10-11, Russia launched another brutal missile attack on Ukraine, attacking a number of regions and completely destroying one of Ukraine’s largest power plants. In addition, another merciless attack on the suburbs of Odesa took place, with 9 Iskander ballistic missiles fired in addition to drones. The missile attack in Odesa killed 5 civilians, including another Protestant minister, Vitaliy Taranenko, who became another victim of Russian terrorism.
We call on our brother in faith, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, as well as all Christian congressmen to protect Ukrainian churches and our people from genocide. We ask you to vote for an aid package for Ukraine and to extend us the hand of support we so desperately need. Today, every day of delay brings more and more victims, our churches are being destroyed, believers and ministers are being killed and tortured, every day of delay hits the churches,” explains Anatoly Kozachok, the current Chairman of the Council.
The letters were signed by the leaders of 15 Protestant denominations in Ukraine and the Ukrainian Bible Society.
