RESOLUTION of the Ukraine Partnering Summit
Today - for Tomorrow

We, the participants in a summit representing evangelical churches from Ukraine, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, and Moldova and the World Evangelical Alliance, met on June 28, 2022, in Lviv, Ukraine. Our purposes were to share our lessons from the first months of the war, to discern present trends, and to determine directions for strategic cooperation in advancing the gospel of God’s kingdom in Europe.

The war of invasion by the Russian Federation against Ukraine has already caused the deaths of tens of thousands of civilians, including hundreds of children. Almost 13 million Ukrainians have been forced to leave their homes, and 5 million of these have become refugees in other countries, of whom the vast majority are women and children. Great harm has been inflicted on the country’s infrastructure, and an unprecedented economic recession continues. The war is causing the biggest humanitarian crisis in Europe since World War II and is threatening the well-being of the whole world. We condemn the Russian aggression and call for an immediate end of hostilities and the liberation of the territory of Ukraine.

We are grateful for the powerful support from the global evangelical community for Ukraine and neighboring countries, which has shown the power of Christian unity in intercessory prayer, generosity, and hospitality. This close fellowship and caring interaction of evangelical churches are strengthening our voice thanks to their active involvement in social and humanitarian work, with the support of many churches and ministries from abroad. Our growing reputation as “Good Samaritans” marks us as followers of Christ in our generation: faith made evident in action. It is impossible to overestimate the help that has come our way from existing partners, churches, service organizations, regional and global networks, and the Ukrainian diaspora. This solidarity and support have resulted in the formation of new relationships and partnerships.

It’s important for us to clearly understand the many challenges we face and to devise effective methods in our response and support. The continuing war makes plain the ongoing need for evacuation and the dispensing of aid to people in dangerous places. Our profound commitment to biblical values enables us to discern the following challenges as the most important ones:

  • Spiritual and psychological support and humanitarian assistance to those suffering from the war and to those caught in economic hardship, particularly IDPs and refugees;
  • Rehabilitation programs for parents, children, youth, and veterans; and
  • Support and rehabilitation for pastors affected by the war.

In view of the vibrant networks of evangelical churches and ministries in our countries, as we respond to Jesus’ prayer for unity (John 17:20–23), we know that working together in cooperation and sharing resources is the best way to move forward.

We invite our global evangelical community to persevere in prayer and to work closer together, bonding in Christ, to overcome the consequences of war and to empower local churches as they minister to people. This ministry requires strengthening relations, creating a common vision, and implementing long-term strategies. To achieve these goals and make our work effective, we need active dialogue and interaction among evangelical leaders of Ukraine, neighboring countries, and the global community. We are convinced that this joint effort will make the gospel of God’s kingdom the foundation for the transformation of society.
